Dalhousie Springs, also known as Witjira-Dalhousie Springs, is a group of over 60 natural artesian springs located in Witjira National Park on the western fringe of the Simpson Desert, 180 kilometres northeast of Oodnadatta in northern South Australia. They are about 250 kilometres (160 mi) southeast of Alice Springs.
Insider tip — Dalhousie Springs is the largest and most isolated artesian spring complex in Australia, sitting in the Witjira National Park at the edge of the Simpson Desert in South Australia. Over 60 individual spring mounds and pools discharge ancient water from the Great Artesian Basin, some of it estimated at over one million years old. The springs support endemic species of fish and invertebrates found nowhere else on Earth, and require a four-wheel-drive expedition to reach across hundreds of kilometres of desert.
