Devin is a spa town in the western Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria, set in a deep river gorge carved by the Trigrad and Devin rivers in one of the most densely forested and biologically diverse mountain landscapes in southeastern Europe. Its bicarbonate spring waters, highly regarded for their purity and therapeutic properties, are used in balneotherapy and are also commercially bottled as Devin mineral water — one of the most widely distributed Bulgarian mineral water brands. The extraordinary Rhodope landscape surrounding Devin includes the Trigradska Gorge with the legendary Dyavolskoto Garlo (Devil's Throat) cave — the largest waterfall cave in the Balkans — and the Yagodinska Cave system with prehistoric human occupation, making Devin a thermal gateway to one of Bulgaria's most spectacular geological environments.
Insider tip — Devin, deep in the Rhodope Mountains of southern Bulgaria, is famous for its exceptionally pure bicarbonate mineral water bottled and exported across the Balkans under the Devin brand. The natural springs emerge at 52°C from granite rock and are channeled into spa hotels offering hydrotherapy, steam baths, and relaxation pools. The surrounding forested gorges and Rhodope highland villages provide a serene backdrop for extended balneological stays.
