Termas de Urmiri

Insider tip — Termas de Urmiri emerge at 38°C on the high Bolivian altiplano at roughly 3,800 metres elevation, where the thin air and vast open sky of the Andes create an otherworldly backdrop for soaking in bicarbonate waters. The drive from La Paz winds through altiplano grasslands dotted with grazing llamas and isolated Aymara communities, taking roughly three hours via Panduro. Acclimatise in La Paz for at least two days before visiting as the combination of altitude and warm water can cause light-headedness. The pool complex, modest but clean, benefits from an almost total absence of commercial development and a profound quiet broken only by Andean wind.
