Leuerbad Gemeindebad

The Leuerbad Gemeindebad — the communal baths — in Leukerbad is the most democratic and convivial expression of the alpine village's extraordinary thermal resources, offering open-air bathing in the same 51°C sulphate springs that feed the village's luxury spa hotels, but at accessible prices and with a lively, social atmosphere year-round. The large outdoor pools, open 365 days a year, fill with a mix of local residents, Swiss families and international visitors, all soaking together in the tradition of communal alpine thermal bathing that has defined Leukerbad since Roman legionaries first bathed here. In winter, the spectacle of bathers in steaming outdoor pools surrounded by snow-covered slopes and the vertical cliff faces of the Gemmi Pass makes for some of the most dramatically atmospheric thermal bathing in Europe.
