On the edge of Hornopirén National Park in Chilean Patagonia, Termas de Pichicolo sits within an evergreen forest just minutes from the village of Hornopirén. Its name is said to derive from an indigenous term meaning "small cat." The natural, rustic pools, built with native timber, are fed by water rich in minerals — nitrates, sulphates, magnesium, iron and zinc — drawn straight from volcanic ground.
Interpretive trails and outdoor pools of varying temperature invite a slow, quiet immersion in a still largely wild setting. The waters were officially registered by Chile's Ministry of Health under a March 2022 decree, a status that speaks to their mineral composition rather than to any scientifically demonstrated effect.
