Termas Alto Biobío — formerly known as Termas El Avellano — is a naturally sulphurous thermal spring resort deep in the Alto Biobío area of the Biobío region, a remote and spectacular Andean valley that is home to the Pewenche Mapuche people and one of Chile's most extraordinary concentrations of ancient araucaria (monkey puzzle) forests. The naturally warm sulphurous waters have been known to the Pewenche people for centuries and form part of their deep cultural relationship with the volcanic landscape of their ancestral territory.
