Jiuzhaigou Hot Springs is a geothermal spring resource within the Jiuzhaigou Nature Reserve of northern Sichuan Province, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve celebrated as one of the most spectacularly beautiful natural landscapes in the world, where multi-hued turquoise and emerald lakes, cascading waterfalls, and ancient Tibetan villages create a landscape of ethereal and otherworldly beauty. The bicarbonate and chloride-mineralised spring waters of the Jiuzhaigou area reflect the complex geological history of the Minshan mountain chain at the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, emerging in a landscape where the intersection of karst limestone, glacial deposits, and geothermal activity creates the extraordinary conditions responsible for the valley's famous coloured lakes. The September 2017 earthquake that severely damaged Jiuzhaigou's tourist infrastructure — subsequently restored through intensive conservation work — demonstrated the valley's geological dynamism and the ongoing tectonic forces that also produce its geothermal spring resources. A hot spring bathing experience in the Jiuzhaigou area combines naturally mineralised thermal water with access to what many consider the world's most beautiful natural lake landscape.

Insider tip — At Jiuzhaigou Hot Springs Sichuan, the 36°C water helps promote digestion and soften the skin in a peaceful Chinese setting.
