Termales Los Volcanes (Machetá)

Termales Los Volcanes in Machetá, Cundinamarca Department, are ferruginous mineral springs set in the Eastern Andes at approximately 2,400 metres altitude, whose iron-rich reddish waters emerge from the páramo (high-altitude Andean grassland) ecosystem that surrounds this highland municipality northeast of Bogotá. The springs' iron-bearing composition reflects the geological character of the Eastern Cordillera's metamorphic and sedimentary basement, and the waters are traditionally valued for skin conditions and anaemia. Machetá's thermal springs offer Bogotá residents a relatively accessible mountain thermal retreat in an authentic high-Andean setting, away from the more developed thermal circuits of the western and central cordilleras.
