Kristall-Therme Schwangau in the Allgäu district of Bavaria offers one of the most visually dramatic settings of any thermal facility in Germany — outdoor pools with direct views of Neuschwanstein Castle, the fairy-tale 19th-century creation of King Ludwig II rising from the forested hillside just a few kilometres away, with the Tannheimer Alps as a backdrop.
