Staatsbad Bruckenau, a historic spa establishment in Bad Bruckenau in the Rhon mountains of northern Bavaria, has operated as a formal Staatsbad — a state-recognised spa — since the early nineteenth century, when Bavarian royalty made it a fashionable retreat. The therme draws bicarbonate water at 38 °C, gently alkaline at pH 8, in a setting of stately neoclassical architecture surrounded by a landscaped kurpark. The Rhon landscape — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of rolling hills, dark forests and wide skies — frames the classic German Kur experience: thermal bathing, walking paths and the deliberate pace of a town built around the restorative properties of its mineral spring.
