Termas de Lobios is a natural thermal spring complex in the Lobios municipality of the Orense province in Galicia, Spain, set in the heart of the Baixa Limia-Serra do Xures Natural Park on the border with the Portuguese Peneda-Geres National Park — together forming the largest transboundary protected natural area in the Iberian Peninsula, a wilderness of granite, heather, wolves, and golden eagles. The bicarbonate spring waters of Lobios filter through the ancient Hercynian granite of the Galician-Portuguese Shield, one of the oldest geological formations on the Iberian Peninsula, producing a naturally soft and mineral-balanced water used for therapeutic bathing in a forest river setting of spectacular natural beauty. The geothermal waters of the Caldo valley flow so hot in some natural pools that they require mixing with river water to reach bathing temperature, and the free riverside hot spring pools accessible within the natural park make this one of the most authentic wild thermal experiences in all of Spain.

Insider tip — Termas de Lobios sits on the Spanish bank of the Limia River just metres from the Portuguese border, in a river valley renowned for some of Galicia's hottest natural springs. The surrounding Baixa Limia-Serra do Xures Natural Park shelters wolves and wild horses on its granite hillsides. Cross the border footbridge to compare the Portuguese thermal village of Caldas do Geres just downstream.
