Termas de Cofrentes

Termas de Cofrentes in the municipality of Cofrentes, Valencia, is a little-known thermal resort set in an exceptionally dramatic landscape — the confluence of the Júcar and Cabriel rivers at the foot of the Muela de Cofrentes, an extinct volcanic plug rising 935 metres from the river valley in a sheer-sided mesa of basalt that dominates the landscape for kilometres. The bicarbonate mineral springs here emerge from the volcanic geology at the base of this extraordinary volcanic remnant, with waters recommended for digestive and metabolic conditions. The surrounding Júcar river gorges, with their dramatic limestone cliffs and the Alarco reservoir lake, are among the most scenically impressive inland landscapes of the Valencia region. The proximity of the Cofrentes Nuclear Power Plant — a visible landmark on the valley floor — provides an unusual modern industrial counterpoint to the ancient geological drama of the volcanic mesa.
