Balneario de Guitiriz

Balneario de Guitiriz in Lugo province is one of Galicia's principal thermal resorts, drawing on sulphurous bicarbonate springs in the green, rain-drenched landscape of central Galicia — a region of ancient granite, Celtic hillfort culture and some of the oldest thermal bathing traditions in the Iberian Peninsula. The springs at Guitiriz have been frequented since Roman times, and the balneario preserves a traditional Galician spa atmosphere of genuine character and modest scale. The surrounding Galician countryside of Lugo province, with its ancient oak and eucalyptus forests, stone-walled fields, hórreos (raised stone granaries) and the magnificent Roman walls of the city of Lugo — the only complete Roman city walls in the world still surrounding their original city — provides a deeply authentic regional context.
