Baños de Panticosa is a celebrated mountain spa resort set high in the Pyrenees of Huesca, Aragon, at an altitude of approximately 1,636 metres amid glacial cirques and peaks of the Panticosa valley. The bicarbonate mineral springs here were used therapeutically as early as the 16th century and became a fashionable 19th-century retreat for Spanish and international aristocracy seeking the combined benefits of alpine air and mineral bathing. The grand Belle Époque pavilions and bathing halls of the original spa complex still frame the crystalline lake at the valley's heart, giving Panticosa an atmosphere of romantic historical grandeur. Today the resort has been modernised while preserving its magnificent landscape setting, making it one of the most scenic thermal destinations in the Pyrenees.
