Wondo Genet, located southeast of Shashemene in Ethiopia's Sidama Region at an elevation of 1,723 metres, is a renowned resort town built around warm bicarbonate springs in one of Ethiopia's most lush and biodiverse forest landscapes, where the thermal waters flow through a canopy of huge wild fig trees inhabited by vervet monkeys and Colobus primates. The springs are the centrepiece of the Wondo Genet College of Forestry campus and resort, and the town is celebrated as Ethiopia's finest birding destination, with over 200 species recorded in the surrounding gallery forest and coffee plantations.
