Morosaglia is a hilltop village in the Haute-Corse department in the heart of the Castagniccia chestnut forest, best known as the birthplace of Pascal Paoli, the Corsican nationalist leader who created the first modern democratic constitution in 1755, making the island a pioneering republic decades before the American and French revolutions. Its bicarbonate spring waters emerge from the ancient granite basement of central Corsica, filtered through dense maquis and chestnut woodland in one of the island's most authentically rural and historically charged landscapes. A visit to the Paoli museum and the family chapel containing his remains, combined with a walk to the natural springs, is a pilgrimage into the heart of Corsican identity and geology.
