Thalasso de Douarnenez

Douarnenez is a deep-sea fishing port in the Finistere department of western Brittany, historically the sardine capital of France and home to the Port-Musee, the largest floating museum in Europe with over 30 traditional working vessels from maritime cultures around the world permanently moored in the historic harbour. Its thalassotherapy center uses the highly iodine-rich Atlantic waters of the Bay of Douarnenez, where powerful Breton tidal currents and deep ocean upwellings from the Bay of Biscay produce some of the most mineral-dense coastal seawater in all of France. Combining maritime museum exploration with a full thalasso program in Douarnenez creates an experience that honours both the seafaring heritage and the therapeutic marine traditions of far western Brittany.
