Volvic

Volvic is a small commune in the Puy-de-Dôme department of Auvergne, central France, world-famous as the source of Volvic mineral water — one of the best-known natural mineral water brands in Europe, bottled from a volcanic spring that filters for five years through the lava flows of the Chaîne des Puys volcanic range before emerging naturally cold and mineral-rich. The Chaîne des Puys — now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Limagne Fault tectonic arena — is a line of 80 volcanic cones and domes extending north of Clermont-Ferrand, and Volvic sits at the heart of this extraordinary volcanic landscape. The lava stone that gives Volvic its name has been quarried since the Middle Ages for the construction of buildings throughout the Auvergne, including the remarkable Volvic church.
