Source Croizat, in Chastreix, Puy-de-Dôme, is a wild spring of bicarbonate water emerging at 38°C. Set within the volcanic Auvergne massif, it offers an open-air pool popular with fans of natural, undeveloped bathing.
Insider tip — Source Croizat is a companion spring to Source Felix a few hundred meters away on the Chastreix plateau, both tapping the same volcanic aquifer that percolates through the Sancy massif's basaltic substrate. The water emerges slightly cooler than the neighboring Felix source and has a noticeably higher carbonation due to its longer residence time in the fractured volcanic rock. This area of the Monts Dore is dotted with mineral springs, and local hikers often collect the water in bottles.
