Source des Hélions 3 is a bicarbonated mineral spring, the third in a series of named sources belonging to a mineral water network whose waters have been valued for their digestive and restorative properties. Such numbered springs are often found in the great French spa regions of Auvergne and the Massif Central, where multiple mineral outlets of varying composition emerge in close proximity. The spring continues to contribute to the rich mineral water heritage of its region, offering naturally bicarbonated water of therapeutic interest.
Insider tip — Source des Helions 3 is one of the satellite springs feeding Niederbronn-les-Bains in northern Alsace, where a cluster of bicarbonate mineral springs in the Northern Vosges Regional Park have attracted bathers since Roman times — the Romans built a camp here specifically to exploit the waters. The spring emerges beneath sandstone outcrops typical of the Northern Vosges, and the surrounding beech forest is part of a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The medieval ruins of Wasenbourg castle are a short hike uphill from the source.
