In the remote Douglas-Daly region, some 130 km from Katherine in Australia's Northern Territory, Tjuwaliyn (Douglas) Hot Springs Park sits on the traditional lands of the Wagiman people, who own the park and jointly manage it with the Parks and Wildlife Commission. The site holds sacred sites, and Wagiman women continue to carry out ceremonies there.

The thermal vents emerge along a 200-300 metre stretch of riverbed, reaching around 60°C at the source before mixing with the cooler waters of the Douglas River. Bathers can therefore pick their own comfort zone, somewhere between the geothermal bubbling and the river's natural chill.

Insider tip — Tjuwaliyn (Douglas) Hot Springs emerge in the tropical savanna of the Northern Territory, about 180 km south of Darwin in the Douglas-Daly region. The site holds deep cultural significance for the Wagiman Aboriginal people, whose name Tjuwaliyn refers to these waters. A series of crystal-clear thermal pools cascade through ancient sandstone surrounded by paperbark trees, pandanus, and rich birdlife. The springs remain warm year-round but are most comfortable to visit in the dry season (May–October).
