Aguas Termais Caldas do Jorro draws remarkably hot bicarbonate and sodium-chloride water, close to 48°C, in Caldas do Jorro, Bahia state, Brazil. Indoor pools, massage and a sauna round out the visit.
Insider tip — Caldas do Jorro in the Tucano Valley of Bahia is one of Brazil's most unusual thermal destinations: artesian wells drilled through the semi-arid sertao produce water at 48°C that gushes naturally to the surface, hence the name (jorro means gushing). The mineral content is dominated by bicarbonates and trace sodium, reflecting long residence time in deep Paleozoic aquifers beneath the Bahian sedimentary basin. The surrounding caatinga landscape of cacti and dry thornscrub heightens the surreal quality of abundant warm water in a drought-prone region. Multiple public pools at different temperatures allow gradual acclimatization.
