Set on Amadeo de Saboya street, this Valencian modernist building was raised in 1908 by architect Ramón Lucini Callejo to house the Asilo de Lactancia, a nursery for the children of workers from the nearby tobacco factory, on the initiative of the Ateneo Mercantil de Valencia. The building also hosted the 1909 Valencian Regional Exhibition before passing into the city council's hands in 2001.

A borehole sunk nearby in 1929 struck water in July 1930, flowing above 40°C at 25 litres per second — a sodium-chloride, magnesium and moderately sulphated water officially recognised as being of public utility in 1951. As Valencia's only urban spa drawing on hyperthermal mineral water, Balneario La Alameda now carries a century-old wellness tradition inside its Art Nouveau walls.

Insider tip — Balneario La Alameda is a classic Valencian thermal establishment drawing on the deep carbonate aquifer waters of the Turia basin near Spain's third-largest city. The historic bathing halls retain an elegant early 20th-century atmosphere rare in modern urban spas. The warm thermal waters are enjoyed for their relaxing and revitalizing qualities, with on-site wellness consultations available. Weekday mornings offer the most tranquil soaking experience at this beloved local institution.
