Balneario de Benassal is a historic Spanish thermal spa in the medieval village of Benassal in the Maestrazgo highlands of the interior Valencian Community, where the Font d'En Segures — producing exceptionally cold, naturally carbonated, bicarbonate-magnesium mineral waters — has been celebrated since at least the fifteenth century, making this one of the most mineralogically distinctive and historically documented springs in Valencia. The cold carbonated bicarbonate-magnesium waters of Benassal are unusual among Spanish mineral springs: naturally effervescent, strongly alkaline, and rich in magnesium in proportions that have sustained the spring's reputation through six centuries of thermal tradition. The medieval village of Benassal, perched at 1,000 meters on a limestone plateau amid the wild, rocky landscapes of the Maestrazgo, provides a setting of extraordinary historical authenticity and natural grandeur for an encounter with one of Spain's most exceptional and architecturally well-preserved thermal spring destinations.

Insider tip — Balneario de Benassal sits high in the Maestrat mountains of inland Valencia, famous for the Font d'En Segures spring whose cold bicarbonate-magnesian-carbonated waters are among Spain's most celebrated mineral waters. The water emerges at cool natural temperatures, making it exceptional as a drinking cure rather than a bathing thermal spa. The historic fountain and bottling facilities have been in operation since the early 20th century. The drive up through the limestone Maestrat landscape is itself a scenic highlight.
