The Turkish Baths in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, are the finest surviving Victorian hammam in Britain, opened in 1897 during the height of Harrogate's fame as 'the Queen of English Watering Places' and magnificently preserved in their original Moorish-style interior with elaborate tilework, stained glass, and period furnishings. The baths draw on Harrogate's celebrated bicarbonate-rich sulphur springs, which made the town the most fashionable spa resort in England and attracted monarchs, politicians, and nobility throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
