Samos Thermal Baths Posidonio is located in the village of Posidonio on the island of Samos, a lush Aegean island just 1.6 kilometres from the Turkish coast in a position that made it one of the great maritime powers of ancient Greece — birthplace of Pythagoras (the mathematician), Epicurus (the philosopher), and Aristarchus (who first proposed the heliocentric model of the solar system). The calcium and sulphated thermal springs of Posidonio emerge on the eastern shore of the island in a landscape of green pine forests, olive groves, and views across the narrow Mycale strait to the Anatolian mountains. The thermal waters have been used for musculoskeletal and dermatological treatments in a tradition reflecting the island's ancient Greek medical heritage, and the bathing experience is enhanced by the remarkable setting between two cultures — Greek island and Turkish mainland — visible from the spring site. Samos's extraordinary wine culture (Samos Muscat is one of Greece's most celebrated dessert wines), its Byzantine monasteries, and the remarkable Heraion temple site (one of ancient Greece's most important sanctuaries) complete an incomparably rich island spa experience.

Insider tip — Posidonio on the eastern coast of Samos features sulfurous springs at 43°C emerging so close to the Aegean that bathers can straddle the boundary between thermal and sea water in the same pool. The small traditional bathhouse above a rocky beach has served local fishermen for generations. Samos is just two kilometers from the Turkish coast, and the thermal geology here is continuous with the volcanic belt across the strait.
