Samos Thermal Baths Posidonio is located in the village of Posidonio on the island of Samos, a lush Aegean island just 1.6 kilometres from the Turkish coast in a position that made it one of the great maritime powers of ancient Greece — birthplace of Pythagoras (the mathematician), Epicurus (the philosopher), and Aristarchus (who first proposed the heliocentric model of the solar system). The calcium and sulphated thermal springs of Posidonio emerge on the eastern shore of the island in a landscape of green pine forests, olive groves, and views across the narrow Mycale strait to the Anatolian mountains.
