Sutinske Toplice is a historic thermal resort in the Krapinsko-Zagorje County of Croatia, one of the chain of Zagorje spa towns that collectively form one of Central Europe's most dense concentrations of thermal spring resorts, where sulphurous thermal water has been enjoyed within a long thermal tradition since the Roman era. The Zagorje thermal tradition flourished during the Habsburg period when Croatian nobility built their Baroque summer palaces near the springs, and several historic spa establishments of this period survive. The nearby Krapina Neanderthal Museum, celebrating one of the world's most significant Neanderthal fossil sites discovered in the Zagorje hills, adds a unique prehistoric dimension to the cultural richness of the region.

Insider tip — Sutinske Toplice is a classic Central European thermal resort in the vine-covered hills of Hrvatsko Zagorje, a region known as the Croatian Tuscany for its gentle rolling landscape. The thermal waters at 40°C have been exploited since at least the 18th century and the establishment retains a period character with newer wellness additions. The surrounding Zagorje countryside offers visits to Trakoscan castle and Krapina Neanderthal museum within easy reach. The spa is particularly favored for rheumatological treatments using the local thermal muds.
