Cipanas is a town in Cipanas district, in the northern part of the Cianjur Regency, West Java, Indonesia. It is situated in the valley of Mount Gede, 86 kilometres (53 mi) south-east of the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta. The name of the town means "hot water" or "hot spring" in Sundanese, due to the presence of sulphuric hot springs in the area.

Insider tip — Cipanas Hot Spring in Cianjur is one of West Java's most accessible thermal destinations, lying on the cool slopes of Gunung Gede-Pangrango National Park at 1,100 m. The volcanic springs feed multiple resort complexes and a public park popular with Jakarta day-trippers. The cooler highland climate makes soaking in 42°C sulfurous pools especially refreshing. Combine with a dawn hike into Gunung Gede-Pangrango for a full immersion in Javanese highland nature.
