Panas Aik Berik is a natural hot spring located on the slopes of Mount Rinjani in central Lombok, Indonesia's second highest volcano at 3,726 meters and the sacred home of the Dewa Anjani spirit in Sasak and Balinese tradition, with the summit's crater lake Segara Anak drawing thousands of pilgrims and trekkers each year. The springs emerge in dense tropical forest near the traditional Sasak village of Senaru, where indigenous islanders maintain a way of life closely intertwined with Rinjani's volcanic rhythms and the rich biodiversity of the mountain's national park. Bathing in these geothermally heated waters within earshot of the forest provides an authentic Lombok experience, far removed from the beach crowds and connected to the island's volcanic soul.
Insider tip — The 40°C bicarbonate waters of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, are reputed to aid digestion and soften the skin.
