Way Belerang Lampung

Way Belerang is a thermal spring area in Tanggamus Regency of Lampung Province on the southern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia, where sulphurous volcanic hot springs emerge from the geothermal activity of the Barisan mountain range—the volcanic backbone of Sumatra that stretches the length of this massive island above the Sunda subduction zone. The sulphur-rich mineral composition of Way Belerang's springs is associated with the comfort of the skin and the restorative appeal of mineral bathing prized in Indonesian hot spring tradition, where volcanic thermal resources have been valued since the pre-Islamic kingdoms of Sumatra ruled these volcanic highlands.
