Sari Ater Hot Springs (Ciater) in the Subang Regency of West Java, near Bandung on the slopes of the Tangkuban Perahu volcano, are naturally carbonated thermal springs whose CO₂-rich, effervescent water has been developed into one of the most popular thermal resort complexes in the greater Bandung metropolitan area. Tangkuban Perahu ('Overturned Boat'), the distinctive saddle-shaped stratovolcano whose Sundanese legend explains its formation as a failed boat construction by the hero Sangkuriang, is one of West Java's most visited geological attractions, and Sari Ater's carbogazeous springs on its lower flanks form a natural volcanic complement to the crater rim visit.
