Ukhrul Warm Springs

Ukhrul Warm Springs are found in Ukhrul District of northeastern Manipur, the highland homeland of the Tangkhul Naga people, one of Nagaland and Manipur's most historically celebrated warrior communities whose traditional martial culture, elaborate ceremonial festivals, and distinctive craft traditions — particularly the woven textiles of Ukhrul's women — represent one of the richest cultural heritages in the northeastern hill region. Ukhrul is particularly celebrated as the home of the Shirui Lily (Lilium mackliniae) — the 'Blue Princess of the Himalayan Wildflowers' — a rare flowering lily found growing naturally on only a single hill, the Shirui Kashong (Shirui Peak), making it the world's only known endemic terrestrial lily restricted to a single hilltop, celebrated annually at the Shirui Lily Festival with cultural programs, traditional music, and conservation awareness activities. The warm springs here draw on geothermal sources in the Manipur Hills' complex geology, providing bicarbonate mineral bathing in a highland district where warrior heritage, unique endemic flora, and Tangkhul Naga cultural pride create an atmosphere of distinctive northeastern Indian mountain culture.
