Garaw Jalli Sulphur Spring is a natural geothermal site in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where bicarbonate-rich sulphurous water surfaces from the limestone geology of the Zagros Mountains in the rugged highland landscape of Iraqi Kurdistan. The spring is embedded in the rich cultural landscape of the Kurdish people, who have inhabited these mountain valleys for millennia and maintain a tradition of using natural mineral waters for therapeutic purposes. The surrounding Kurdistan Region, with its dramatic mountain scenery, ancient citadels such as Erbil's 6,000-year-old citadel mound (the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world), and the recovering natural environment of the post-Baathist era, provides a deeply historical and geologically active setting.
