Strútslaug is a remote geothermal hot pot in the southern Icelandic highlands near the Torfajökull volcanic area, accessible only via multi-day hiking on the Laugavegur or Fjallabak routes and requiring a river crossing of the Tungnaá — one of Iceland's most powerful glacial rivers — making it one of the most challenging thermal destinations in the country to reach. The reward is soaking in a naturally warm geothermal pool fed directly by the volcanic heat of one of Iceland's most active geothermal zones, surrounded by the absolute silence and vastness of Iceland's uninhabited interior, with the Mýrdalsjökull and Torfajökull ice caps visible on the horizon. Strútslaug represents the furthest extreme of Iceland's wild hot spring tradition — a geothermal pool in a landscape so remote that reaching it is itself a significant physical achievement.
