Fjalla-Eyvindur was an Icelandic outlaw. He and his wife Halla are reported to have fled into the remote highlands of Iceland after 1760. They lived in the wilderness for 20 years. A hot spring named Eyvindarhver is named after him.
Insider tip — Eyvindarhver is a superheated spring in the Kerlingarfjöll geothermal area at roughly 900 m elevation in Iceland's central highlands, accessible only in summer via the F35 mountain road. The spring emerges at nearly 80°C and is surrounded by brilliant orange and yellow silica terraces stained by thermophilic bacteria. Swimming is not possible at the vent, but the broader Ásgarður geothermal valley nearby offers cooler soaking pools. The rugged rhyolite backdrop of Kerlingarfjöll adds a dramatic alpine character.
