Terme di Castrocaro in Castrocaro Terme e Terra del Sole, in the Forlì-Cesena province of Emilia-Romagna, is a historic Italian thermal resort at the edge of the Apennine hills whose chloride-sodium-iodine-bromine brines have been part of a long thermal tradition since the 19th century and are among the most distinctive mineral waters in the Romagna region. The thermal establishment is known particularly for its iodine-rich brine waters within this enduring spa tradition. The adjacent Terra del Sole is a perfectly preserved Renaissance planned city built by Cosimo I de' Medici in 1564, a rare example of 16th-century urban planning executed almost without subsequent modification — its gridded streets, central piazza and fortified walls survive complete. The surrounding Romagna hills, with Faenza (birthplace of faïence pottery), Forlì's Art Deco architecture and the Adriatic Riviera coast, provide a richly layered regional context.

Insider tip — The Castrocaro song festival in summer is an Italian tradition. The Art Deco architecture of the thermal baths is remarkable, worth visiting even outside a cure.
