Pozza "Leonardo da Vinci"

Pozza Leonardo da Vinci is a natural sulphurous free thermal pool in the Viterbo volcanic zone of northern Lazio, named in honour of Leonardo da Vinci, who studied and sketched the Bulicame hot spring near Viterbo during his travels through central Italy and incorporated the thermal spring into Dante's Inferno commentary in his notebooks. The Viterbo thermal landscape — with its extraordinary concentration of free natural sulphurous pools, travertine formations, and volcanic lakes — fascinated Leonardo as a natural philosopher, and the naming of this pool after him celebrates the Renaissance master's scientific curiosity about the earth's internal fires. The surrounding Viterbo volcanic landscape of the Cimini and Vulsini hills, Etruscan tombs, and medieval papal city provides an extraordinarily layered Italian setting.
