Dogo Onsen Annex Asuka-no-yu is a grand public bathhouse in Matsuyama city, Ehime Prefecture on Shikoku Island, constructed in 2017 as an expansion of the legendary Dogo Honkan — Japan's oldest onsen, in continuous operation since the 6th century and the inspiration for the fantastical bathhouse in Miyazaki Hayao's Oscar-winning animated film Spirited Away. Asuka-no-yu honors this extraordinary heritage with a striking contemporary design incorporating traditional Iyo crafts and a premium bathing experience with private rooms and artistic elements celebrating the Dogo onsen legacy. The siliceous waters shared between the Honkan and Asuka-no-yu have been documented in Japan's oldest written records, the Man'yōshū poetry anthology, and remain medically valued for their skin-nourishing properties — making Dogo one of the most historically significant thermal sites in East Asia.
