Higashi-Kagawa Onsen

Higashi-Kagawa Onsen is a thermal facility in Higashikagawa city on the eastern tip of Kagawa Prefecture on Shikoku Island, at the narrowest point of the Seto Inland Sea where the island approaches close to the Harima region of Honshu, in an area historically important for the production of traditional Japanese gloves — a craft industry dating back 400 years that still accounts for 90% of Japan's domestic glove production. The siliceous geothermal waters of the eastern Sanuki region, filtering through the Mesozoic granite and limestone of the Shikoku backbone range, offer a locally rooted thermal experience in a corner of Shikoku that maintains strong traditional craft and agricultural identities. Bathing in the siliceous onsen here while surrounded by the quiet maritime landscape of the eastern Inland Sea offers a meditative contrast to the busier tourist circuits of western Kagawa.
