Ugata Onsen is a thermal facility near Tsu city, the prefectural capital of Mie Prefecture on the Ise Bay coast of the Kii Peninsula, where siliceous geothermal waters from the ancient geology of the Kinki region offer restorative bathing within reach of the sacred precincts of the Ise Grand Shrines — the most sacred site in Shinto, home to the Sun Goddess Amaterasu.
