Katayamazu Onsen

Katayamazu Onsen is one of the three celebrated hot-spring resorts collectively known as the Kaga Onsen, located on the shores of Lake Shibayama in Kaga city, Ishikawa Prefecture, on Japan's Sea of Japan coast. The area belongs to the Chubu-Hokuriku region, a corridor of traditional culture connecting the deep-snow architecture of Shirakawa-go with the refined aesthetics of Kanazawa, lending Katayamazu Onsen a refined and contemplative atmosphere shaped by centuries of literary and artistic patronage.

The bicarbonate waters rise at 40 °C with a pleasantly alkaline pH of 8, producing a bath that feels noticeably smooth and gentle against the skin. The mild temperature is ideal for extended soaking, while views across the lake from some of the traditional ryokan inns turn the bathing experience into something approaching meditation.
