Atagawa Onsen

Atagawa Onsen is a coastal thermal resort in Higashi-Izu town on the eastern Pacific coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka Prefecture, where siliceous hot spring waters from the Izu volcanic system emerge at the cliff-edge of the Pacific coastline — one of the most dramatic coastal settings for a Japanese onsen, with the Pacific Ocean audible from the bathhouse and coastal walking paths connecting ryokan perched above rocky coves and surf. The Higashi-Izu coastline, part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, offers extraordinary Pacific coastal scenery of volcanic sea cliffs, hidden beaches, and subtropical cave temples, combined with the warm subtropical microclimate that allows bananas, citrus fruits, and tropical flowers to grow alongside the siliceous hot spring facilities.
