Futakuchi Onsen is a traditional hot spring resort in Shibata city in Miyagi Prefecture in the Tōhoku region of northern Honshu, where siliceous geothermal waters from the Ou Mountain Range — the volcanic spine of Tōhoku — emerge in the cedar-forested hill country of the Sendai Plain hinterland, providing therapeutic bathing in the agricultural heartland of northern Japan. Shibata city is known for its beautiful cherry blossom promenade along the Shiroishi River and its proximity to the White Stone Castle (Shiroishi-jo), a reconstructed feudal castle associated with the powerful Date clan that dominated Tōhoku during the Sengoku period.
