Hidaka Monbetsu Onsen is located in the Hidaka district of Hokkaido, in the foothills of the Hidaka Mountains where the volcanic geology of this rugged mountain range — one of Hokkaido's wildest and least-developed highland zones, running north-south as a dramatic spine between the Tokachi Plain and the Pacific coast — generates the geothermal activity responsible for the hot spring waters that have served this mountain community for generations.
