Ofunato Onsen

Ofunato Onsen is located in Ofunato, a coastal city in southern Iwate Prefecture that experienced severe damage from the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, whose waves inundated large portions of the city and fundamentally altered the urban landscape along Ofunato Bay — one of Japan's ria coastlines formed by the submergence of river valleys, creating the deep indented bays and dramatic headlands that characterize this stretch of the Sanriku coast.
