Tosa Shimanto Onsen

Tosa Shimanto Onsen is situated near the Shimanto River in the Shimanto City area of western Kochi Prefecture, close to Japan's last great clear-water river — the Shimanto, celebrated throughout Japan as the 'last clear stream' (shizen no aoi-zora) because it remains the only major river in Japan with no dam on its main channel, flowing naturally through its forested mountain watershed to the Pacific in a state of ecological integrity that has become increasingly rare in an era of intensive dam construction.
