Ogose Onsen draws visitors to a small western Saitama town celebrated above all for its extraordinary plum grove — the Ogose Bairin — whose thousands of blossoming trees rank it among the three finest plum viewing sites in all of the Kanto region, drawing visitors from Tokyo and surrounding prefectures each February and March when the grove fills with fragrance and pale pink and white blooms before the cherry season begins. The surrounding Ogose valley offers hiking in the low hills of the Buko and Ryokami mountain area, where streams run clear through secondary woodland and the air carries the sharpness of clean upland drainage from the outer Chichibu range.
