Oyabe Onsen

Oyabe Onsen serves a small Toyama city positioned at the meeting point of the coastal plain and the foothills of the Tonami hills, a transitional landscape between the flat agricultural lowlands that produce Toyama's tulips and rice and the mountain terrain that rises toward the Hakusan range forming the Ishikawa border. The Oyabe River, one of the shorter rivers draining the Noto Peninsula's eastern face toward the Japan Sea, flows through the city providing irrigation for the surrounding farmland and a natural amenity that has supported the communities on its banks since the Yayoi period agricultural settlements established here more than two millennia ago. The onsen's siliceous geothermal mineral waters, drawing from the thermal resources of the Toyama plain's geological strata, provide therapeutic bathing in a community that preserves the quiet agricultural character of the Toyama interior while offering easy access to both the coastal amenities of Takaoka and the mountain landscapes of the Hakusan range visible to the southwest.
