Taisei Onsen flows in Nomi, a small Ishikawa city positioned between the ancient craft towns of Komatsu and the Kaga Onsen hot spring cluster, in territory that was part of the Kaga domain governed by the Maeda clan — the wealthiest domain in Tokugawa Japan outside of the Tokugawa family itself — whose lords invested their agricultural and commercial wealth in creating one of premodern Japan's most sophisticated provincial cultural environments, patronizing Kutani porcelain, Kenzan lacquerwork, and gold leaf production that remain Ishikawa's defining craft traditions. The local geology of the former Kaga Province area underlies some of Ishikawa's most mineral-rich spring sources, and the proximity of the Nomi area to the celebrated Kaga Onsen town cluster reflects the exceptional geothermal abundance of this part of the Japan Sea coast.
