Okami Onsen

Okami Onsen occupies the Tateyama area of Toyama Prefecture, where the sacred peaks of the Tateyama range — one of Japan's three holy mountains — rise above forested foothills that shelter small mountain communities and traditional farmhouses in a landscape shaped by the dual forces of deep snow accumulation and the volcanic geology that makes this corner of the Northern Alps both geothermally active and spiritually significant. The Tateyama area is the gateway to the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route from the Toyama side, and the mountain's importance as a pilgrimage destination since at least the 8th century has left a legacy of shrine complexes, pilgrimage paths, and mountain religious culture that continues in the traditions of mountain worship practiced by communities on its lower slopes.
